This week for my FMP, I ideally
wanted to finish texturing all my assets for my Priestess and get her rigged
and posed to import her into Unreal. But there were slight changes of plan.
I received feedback on my
texturing that although it was cohesive and pleasing, it lacked a bit of colour
range that would draw the eye to a focal point. So, taking that on board, I changed
the colour of the bandage around her eyes from beige to red. I also added subtle
red highlights on the dress and some gold parts to give a bit of unity
throughout the model as a whole. I was unsure at first how to make this work,
or if red was even a good colour to use in the first place, but after messing
around with different hue variations I think it worked out. Doing this made me
realize the beige before was making it seem a little flat does draw your
attention to looking at the face first then naturally going down to look at the
model as a whole.

Another set of feedback I received
was in regards to the character I planned to do next- Justice. In regards to
his concept, I’d originally planned to give him a jagged gold skirt but my
tutors thought that it may obscure his legs and create an overly complex
silhouette on the bottom half of him. Taking this feedback on board, I spent
some time reworking the design to better fit the legs but also match more with
the High Priestess since now I had her as a solid reference for what I needed
the other 2 models to look like. I tried giving Justice a flowing skirt like
the Priestess, something shorter, a few different designs but I ended up giving
him an underskirt and then 4 longer accent pieces of cloth that matched
similarly to the High Priestess. I think this would be best not just in terms
of being aesthetically pleasing but on a technical basis it’ll probably be the
easiest to rig and skin and will cause the least clipping issues.

On another note, I’d worked on the
Priestess’ weapon and scroll which was fairly straightforward but the rendering
took longer than I anticipated to get it to the same quality as the model.
Rendering the pair of secondary assets + making the changes to Justice’s design
and the Priestess’ model ended up being my whole week. It doesn’t necessarily
mean I’m now behind on work, I’d planned this out to give myself spare weeks at
the end to work on anything that wasn’t up to date during the originally 4
weeks per character, so I’m not particularly concerned. I think the High Priestess
is in a good state and I’m very happy with how she turned out during this time.
I’ll move on to Justice from next week just so I don’t fall behind on him and
then the following character. But overall I think this went well, I’m now more
aware of my pace with this FMP and I’ll adjust myself accordingly going
forwards.
